THE MULE WITH NO NAME: The Local Recut reimagines Insurgent Pictures’ 2008 film THE LOCAL as a harder, richer, more narratively driven ride through an apocalyptic urban wasteland.
A desperate, low-level drug courier is offered a life-changing payday by a wealthy outsider: kidnap the man’s estranged daughter from a ruthless gang and deliver her safely. But in a world ruled by shifting loyalties and sudden violence, every step of the plan tightens the noose—and the mule must decide whether to finish the job, turn on his employer, or run for his life.
Conceived during the early Covid-era quarantine, writer/director Dan Eberle partnered remotely with editor Yasu Inoue to excavate long-dormant footage, rebuild the project from the ground up, and reshape it with a bold new editorial approach. Featuring previously unused material, a fresh remix and soundscape, and expanded narration that aligns the film more closely with Eberle’s original 2003 unpublished novel manuscript, THE MULE WITH NO NAME isn’t just a remaster—it’s a rebirth.
“Brutal and relentless!”
